A science & sport documentary series
A neuroscientist with Type 1 diabetes challenges elite athletes to a metabolic duel.

01 / The series
Behind every effort are decisions about insulin, food, glucose and when to keep going. For someone living with Type 1 diabetes, those decisions are part of everyday life.
Screw Diabetes brings them into view through shared sporting challenges, glucose data and the lived experience of its creator.

Created and presented byDr Pedro Dias
Pedro is a neuroscientist and endurance athlete who has lived with Type 1 diabetes since 2009.
His own journey took him from fear of exercise with T1D to qualifying for and competing in the Ironman 70.3 World Championships. That experience is the starting point for Screw Diabetes.
The series opens up the questions behind that journey: what happens to glucose during exercise, how do you handle uncertainty, and what does it take to feel more confident being active?
More about Pedro03 / Our mission
The series aims to deepen understanding of exercise with T1D among people affected by diabetes and the wider public.
Screw Diabetes and Pedro’s work in exercise education share a broader mission: to improve quality of life with diabetes.
Our long-term goal is to turn that mission into evidence-based programmes developed with clinical and institutional partners. The series contributes by making the lived experience of exercise with T1D visible and understood.
